House of cards

House of cards

A Poem by black.butterfly

I was given
a deck of cards
with names on them,
that I was unwillingly
meant to build a house with;
some had my heart
stamped on them
like sealed letters,
that they sent as guardians,
who were sworn to protect
the queen of hearts
from their knives
like pieces with a fixed fate
waiting on a chessboard
she just plays in her court
with her unwritten rules
that she signs
in renegade rouge
like the fire
of her bloodline
and taste of wine
in her forbidden, hidden
kiss, which I, every time
wreck & reshuffle
on purpose, because
my real heart is
never the kind that
will ever be stamped
on paper.
