Breathe

Breathe

A Poem by Emily Quinn
"

Inspired by the poems picture sent to me for the "Picture Perfect" contest

"

Faith in her heart cherished without hesitation

Once warmed the beating muscle so pure

As her serene smile lit up the lives of all who saw.

Little girl who endlessly loved so wholly,

Why now do you turn solemnly to the sky

With mourning eyes for the faith once clutched

In an impenetrable nest by thine own small fingers?

You tremble beneath far reaching shadows

Of which whisper your name with an icy breath

To lightly brush your goose-bumped flesh.

Why does fear now dampen those eyes

That once held infallible courage so strong

As clay lays dried over a smile of love

Hardened into steely mask of sorrow?

You look to the clouds with that betrayed eye

Sprouting forth tears unintended for you to weep

Into this life that hath failed to learn

Lessons of countless, secretly told.

Will those sorrows ever depart

Returning love unto your breast?

Oh small child how I weep for you

Mourning innocence with utmost grief.

How I beg that smile to crack the clay

And survive to brighten one more day.

Amazing. You are honestly one of the most talented writers that I've had the privelege of reading on this site--probably honestly the most talented. I love this piece--not a thing I could see wrong with it. Tells a beautiful but sad story. Gorgeous work, Emily.

touching, affecting, authentic, chaste, unspotted and breathtaking. Spoken misery's yelling loud from your silent words... Such powerful grief's vocabulary . There, behind the chest, where the heart's concealing, your words can simply slip inside and touch it

So, so true. Faith comes easily when there are no obstacles to overcome, no hardships to undertake. Then, all of sudden, we feel we are forsaken, not realizing these things, when conquered, strengthen the foundation our faith was built upon. Thank you so much. Needed this.

Wow this is amazing. Every line caught my eye I felt like re-reading it as I inspired your work. I do think poetry is a written piece of art and this one is a fine piece of art. I adore the rhyme used my favourite rhyme clay and day. It's been a long time since I read a poem like this. I hope to read more of your work
