beautiful self

beautiful self

A Poem by Emily Quinn

Swirling lines of eternal colour

Holding everlasting truth

Within the mystery, a meaning so dear

A secret value to only one.

Tales of life, gained and lost

Depicted in such imagery

Each carefully placed line

Is a sequence of words

Making up each personal story.

A proclamation of individuality

To separate from the drones

A vision of beautiful artwork

Never fading away from view.

Within the ink, feelings are captured

For us to never forget ourselves

Never regretting the permanence

For telling a stage of our lives.

Across our bodies these lines are drawn

As we smile against the wince

Expression of self is worth it all

The pain, the raw sore, the healing;

A reflection of life all the same

Whether it’s for self expression

Or discovery to find who we are

Whether it’s a form of rebellion

Or a sense of distinctive style

A tattoo is unique all the same

Body art that will stay with us forever

A creative way to tell our tales

And of many more to come.
