patiently waitingA Poem by Emily Quinnpicture six.Her eyes dazzling in the sunshine made me catch my breath, Her rejection would surely deliver my heart to the clutches of death. The soft lips that whispered my name, Was merely all just a part of her game. Her temptress ways drew all the eyes, Her teasing methods fooling even the most wise. I waited so long for her to arrive, I wasn’t so sure I would survive. The date was set when I was twenty two, If only i had known she had spoken untrue. Now in my eighties I continue to wait, For that beautiful girl to attend our date. I wait although I know it’s a waste, I refuse to give up the thrill of the chase. The radiant beauty that demanded my attention, Now kept me from claiming my seniors pension. After so many years spent waiting for her, I doze to a tall glass of liqueur. The girl who had strewn me along, Cost me my youth, my wait was lifelong. And now in the end i come to see, Never had she intended to be my sweet pea. © 2010 Emily QuinnFeatured Review
