Because I Can't [You Forget How Human I Really Am]

Because I Can't [You Forget How Human I Really Am]

A Poem by Emunah June.

If you jumped off a building

I wouldn't fly off to catch you

Because I can't.

If someone robbed a bank

I wouldn't shoot them with my laser vision

Because I can't.

If an old lady were to get purse-jacked

I wouldn't takle the robber

Because I can't.

And if I can't do those things

Who thinks that I'd be able to

Take a bullet to the heart?

People like you forget

Just how human I truly am.

I can hurt, too.

I have a backstory

But you're all too lazy to listen.

You can't say you know me, can you?

Do any of you have the time to speak to me?

No?

I didn't think so.

This isn't drama.

This is something different.

These are feelings.

Feelings I've locked away.

Feelings exploding within me.

Feelings you all find "retarded".

I can cry just like you.

I can bleed just like you.

I am just like you.

So if you and I are the same.

Why then, oh why

Would you do this to me?

You would never

Hurt yourself, right?

So why do it to me?

I dedicate this poem to you,

The current reader

Because this applies to you, too.
