Chapter 43: Anaise

Chapter 43: Anaise

A Chapter by Emunah June.

I can't believe whats happening.

The pain hits me like a tidal wave. I look down, and see the tip of a gleaming silver blade just barely poking itself out from under my shirt. I can hear a soft driping noise against my floor.

I've been stabbed.

Kaen is sitting there behind me, and I can feel the smirk on his face. He's proud of what he's doing to me. I look over at Ayumi, and I notice her face is one big blur. The world around me is one big blur.

Everything is a blur.

"You don't look so good," I hear a voice in front of me.

I look to see a very clear Anaise talking to me. She's glowing in the midst of a blurred out world. I start to say something, but blood rushes up my throat and pours out of my mouth. Anaise steps back a bit. "Eww. Perhaps you should rest before coming to see the king," she suggests. I feel the blade slide out from me, and immedietly my knees go weak. I collapse to the floor below me and hear someone scream. I can't tell who. The voice sounds like it could be either of them, but I doubt it was Kaen.

I look forward, and Anaise leans down and looks directly at me. "The king is going to be most displeased you know, if you're late." Like the rabbit from Wonderland, she pulls out a gigantic watch, who's ticks and tocks sounded like thunder in my ears. "You still have time. If we leave now we might be able to make it!~"

I can't believe the task Anaise is asking me to complete. I could barely breathe, let alone get up and go see this "king". But Anaise was adament, shoving the watch in my face. I groan at all the noise.

Anaise lets out a dissapointed sigh. I look around again, and now everything is so blurry it looks like I am laying in a field of smudged colour. More blood travels up my throat, the salty taste making me want to vomit.

Kaen drops the knife in his hands. I only know this because it sounds like an explosion when it hits the floor. Someone's talking, and I dont know who.

"You gonna be okay?" Anaise asks a second later. I mumble something in response, but even I can't tell what I had just said. Anaise looks up, and suddenly the costume ears on her head perk up, just like an acutal rabbit. "She's here," she says, smiling at me, and suddenly a second glowing figure pierces through the blurry fog I once called reality. It's that girl with the sewn up lips this time. She sees me and rushes over, cradling me in her arms and looking at me, her eyes brimming with tears.

Then I see something extraordinary.

The stitches on her mouth begin to unravel themselves and fade into thin air. I watch as her mouth slowly frees itself. When the last stitch is gone, she speaks to me for the first time.

"Alphonse no!!! Stay with me!!!"

Her tears fall onto my face, running down my cheeks and slipping onto the floor. I carefully study her expression. She's hurt, you can tell. And her mouth is quivering with words of sorrow.

"Alphonse, please don't die!! Don't die!! Don't die!!!"

She's pleading for me to wake up, to look her in the eyes and to tell her I'm okay. But Momma raised me right: I wasn't going to lie to her. I wasn't okay. I was in alot of pain.

I see Anaise watching from a distance, her voice begin to create an echo. "The king is waiting, sir! If we don't go soon, he'll be sad!! We have to go!!"

I dont understand what makes this king so important, or why I must go see him now. Sure I got on invite, but that didnt mean anything. Did I really have to go?

The girl shakes me. "Alphonse don't go to sleep! Stay with me! Don't go, I'm begging you!"

I look her in the eyes again, and suddenly I understand. "A...Ayumi...." I whisper, and she looks at me carefully. "Yes Alphonse? Please stay awake! Keep talking! Keep talking!" she begs, crying harder.

"Ayumi..." I'm able to say one more time before my vocal cords shut themselves off.

Anaise is standing before me. She places her rabbit paw on my face. "We have to go now, if we ever have any hopes of greeting the king on time." Gently, she shuts my eyes. "Let's go now."
