Chapter 42: To Tame The BladeA Chapter by Emunah June.Point of View: Koda
"Morning!"
My head is pounding when I step into the dining room the next morning. Edward's over near the counter, making some sort of food that smells absolutely delicious. He's smiling at me as he welcomes me in. "Sit down and relax. Breakfast is almost ready anyway," he says in a playful tone. I smile. His good mood must have come from our "talk" last night.
I sit in a chair and rest my head on the table. Edward looks over. "You okay?" he asks, turning around just in time for me to something he probably wish I hadn't.
All goes quiet when I lay my eyes on his light blue apron with a star in the center.
He blushes, totally forgetting he had it on. He turns around. "Lets um...not talk about that," he says, and I laugh before my head tells me to stop. I groan in agony.
"Seriously. Are you alright?" he asks, taking off the apron before turning around. I shake my head very slowly. "I woke up with a killer headache. It feels like someone put my brain through a blender," I said before sitting upright and sighing. Edward nodded. "Ahh. Well then, I'll make you a fresh cup of coffee. That should help some," he says as he prods whats on the stove, then begins to grind up coffee beans.
I sigh as I look out the window. I wonder how Alphonse is doing today? Even though I was upset with him for what he did, I still was worried about him.

Point of View: Kaen
I had counted the holes in the wall several times now. Seven. I was sure I had punched more then that. At least, thats how it felt.
I pace around the room back and forth. I'd been out all night, searching town high and low for her, but it wasn't until I came home that I realized she'd gone to the most obvious place: Alphonse's house. I sigh angrilly, feeling the knife in my back pocket start to jab the back of my leg. I take it out and throw it on the counter. Well, this was just great. I had stayed here, letting out my anger on the walls. That way, even though that pig deserved to be slaughtered, I'd save the hysteria and try to reason with him.
At least he'd listen.
Ayumi, on the other hand, was completely fooled and wouldn't dare listen to a word I said. She was in love, and this (for some reason) gave her the right to ignore my commands. I cletch my teeth and slam my fist against the wall and make an eighth hole. I pant and let out all the hot air built up in my chest out. I pull my bloodied fist back and admire my work. In my anger I had managed to kill a mouse living inside. I pull out the body and throw it in the garbage. I peer at my knuckles and stare at the blood spilling out of my wounds.
This was as calm as I was going to get. I was off to Alphonse's house.
Just as Im about to leave, I stare at the knife I had thrown on the counter. I grab it and stare at my reflection on the blade. My eyes were bloodshot from the lack of sleep, and sweat was pouring down my face. I knew this look, but I wasn't going to try to stop it: I was angry. I was upset.
I wanted my sister back.
I kick my front door open and begin down the sidewalk to Alphonse's house. It's breakfast hour, so surely him and Ayumi are awake. I feel myself growing angry. What if he had tricked her into sleeping with him? I know an angry cry is building up in my chest, but I manage to swallow it and continue onward. I wasn't looking to kill anyone, but if he slept with her....
He'd die.
I get to his front door, and just as I'm about to kick the door down, I hear Ayumi give off a sweet melodious laugh.
I pause.
The laugh was none like any I'd heard her make before. It was...happier.
I look at the doorknob again before walking over and peeking through the window.
The scene I see brings a tear to my eye.
Both fully clothed and well kept, Alphonse and Ayumi were sittin at the table, drinking coffee and smiling at each other. The smile thats plastered on Alphonse is what gets me: it's warm, kind, and genuine. He means what he's displaying.
He's happy. She's happy.
Suddenly I finally realize what Ayumi was trying to tell me: she's happy with him. Flaws and all, she accepts him and is happy. I feel guilt run through me, and I lower my gaze to the ground. Who was I to disrupt this? Who was I to split apart two people so very much in love? I sigh, and instead decide to knock on the door rather than knocking it down.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Alphonse's eyes go stone cold. He's nervous and knows its me. Our eyes meet for a second, and he audiolessly tells Ayumi "It's Kaen." She grabs his shirt sleeve and begins to tell him something, but he shakes his head and smiles reassuringly at her. When she lets go he puffs out his chest a bit and makes his way to the door.
The second he opens the door, I see the fear in his eyes.
"Kaen...listen, let me explain--" "No need, Al."
Hes taken aback by my lighthearted tone. "Huh?" he asks, obviously surprised. Ayumi stands up in surprise as well. I nod, smiling. "Yeah, just make sure she's home for dinner. Im making her favourite tonight."
Alphonse stares, then nods and smiles. I see Ayumi starting to laugh. "T-Thanks Kaen. I promise, we're just talking. Nothing else," he said nervously. I nod. "I know," I say reassuringly. Alphonse grins and gives me a polite nod before turning around.
I grin.
There's a slicing sound, and before anyone can say anything there's already blood on my blade. © 2011 Emunah June.Author's Note
