Chapter 41: In a Glorious SenseA Chapter by Emunah June. The second I got in my door, I took a deep breath and blushed a deep crimson.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED??
I put a finger to my bottom lip and try to remember the feel of Ayumi's lips. Her taste. But the moment was so heated, so off the wall that I didnt remember anything. I sigh. Great. Now she was going to think that I just did that to every girl I saw.
But what she had said...
You're allowed to do that again.
I slide down the wall until I'm sitting on my floor, knees up and my head spinning. These past few days weren't making sense.
It was obvious I wanted something, but what? What was it that I was searching for? I lean my head back against the wall and let out a deep frustrated exhale. Now that my senses were coming back to me, I felt awful for dodging out on Ayumi like that. She must be awfully confused. Or angry. Personally, I wouldn't hate her for either reason. These past few days I was confusing and angry with myself.

"The palace, the palace! It isn't too far from here!" the little girl (who now I figured out was to be named Anaise) jumps up and exclaims. I look towards her and shrug my shoulders. "Which way do I take?" I ask, and Anaise replies with sitting on the ground and fixing her rabbit ear. "I dunno~" she sings playfully.
I pinch the bridge of my nose out of frustration. "Look, this king needs to see me and I dont even know which way to go," I say in a firm tone. This seems to scare Anaise, who wasn't used to the tone I was using. In fact, I barely recognized that it was my own voice. I kneel down and comfort her. "I'm sorry, I've just got alot on my mind right now."
Anaise sits up straight. "Alot on your mind? Surely, you do. After all you've done so much here in this place..." she says, trailing off before letting out a mischevious giggle. "...you've gone and kissed the Forbidden Maiden, and now the Silver Knight is upset~♪"
I sigh again. Obviously Anaise wasn't going to get me to where I needed to be. I stood and looked towards the west. A large looming castle was silohuetted in the distance, light peeking through the fog from the windows. I ask myself why I had never seen it before.
Anaise smiles. "You're meeting has arrived, sir. You'd better go see the king...well, at least, before the Silver Knight does."
I close my eyes. "No, he's already there."
"How can you tell?" "I just can. He's there, and he's waiting for me."
I shiver. Him and who else? The whole royal army? I didnt know, but someone was there with him, and it wasn't Koda.

I wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of someone banging their fist against my front door.
Hastily, I scramble out of bed and smooth out the ends of my hair before answering the door.
On the other side stood Ayumi, who's face was bright red and tears were streaming down her face. I didnt have time to say anything before she looped her arms around my waist and began to cry, and cry hard.
My reaction is slow. Its a good 13 seconds before I say anything. "Ayumi?? What's wrong??" I ask, surprised to see her again like this.
She buries her face into my bare chest and says nothing, only contiues to sob and leave me wondering what was going on. I gently put my arms around her in a weak hug, concerned and awfully confused. "Ayumi, what is going on?" I ask again, hoping to get a response. Again, she says nothing as she lets me go and slams my front door shut. I look at her face and the tear stains on her pajama shirt.
"Y'know what? Lets talk about this over some coffee. I'll make some."

Point of View: Ayumi
His kindess to me was overwhelming.
In a second he had seated me at his table and threw on a good t-shirt. He ground up homemade coffee beans and brewed us both up some great tasting coffee. When he set my cup in front of me, I began to tell him everything that had led me to his front door.
"Kaen...he found out about our kiss earlier and now he's wicked upset. If I stayed there any longer, he'd kill me!!" I shout with shaky hand.
Alphonse's eyes grow worried, and immedietly he stands up and locks the front door. "You can stay here until Kaen cools off then," he said once he turned around.
Suddenly, he blushes a light pink and looks at me. "Speaking of which...I'm uh...well yknow...sorry about that. I dont know what came over me..."
My heart drops knowing it wasn't intentional. I lower my gaze and dont say a word, because I don't want to make anything worse.
Alphonse's hand suddenly lands on my shoulder. "Don't worry Ayumi. You're safe here. Push comes to shove, I can put up a decent fight," he said with a comforting smile. My heart races in my chest, and Im frozen where I sit. "Hey...are you alright?" he asks, and I can only nod. His hand leaves my shoulder, and without meaning to I grab it and don't let go.
He blushes. "Ayumi?" he asks in a confused tone. I sigh. "It's nothing. Forget it," I say, letting him go. He stands there for a second, curious. "Oh...Ayumi," he said with a small laugh, sighing and shaking his head. I blush with embarrasment.
Alphonse sits back in front of me and takes a sip of his coffee. His face grows serious and he thinks. "Would Kaen suspect you'd come here?" he asks me, and I shrug. "Kaen likes to think outside the box. I can't say this'll be the last place he'll look, but it'll be awhile before he gets here," I reply, cleaning my eyes free of tears that simply refused to spill. Alphonse seems to take comfort in this as he leans back in his seat.
I close my eyes, wondering if I should just tell him how I felt. We've already kissed and now I'm staying here, and he doesn't even know. I sigh. I thought I made it kinda obvious. I take a sip of my coffee and look out the window.
"Hey Al?" "Yup?" "I...um...I think I...." "Yeah?" "Um...thanks for the coffee." © 2011 Emunah June.Author's Note
