Chapter 34: Her ReasoningA Chapter by Emunah June.Point of View: Kaen
She was sleeping so peacefully, Ayumi was. I stood at the end of her bed, watching her toss and turn in her sleep. My eyes slit. She thought I didn't know about it, that I was completely out of the loop.
She thought I was too stupid to see the signs.
Six days. I look over at the clock makred 12:34 PM. Scratch that, seven days. In seven days, my sister managaed somehow to fall in love with the very man she almost killed.
I glance over at her desk and look over some of the scattered papers, then back at her. How? How was this possible? How!? She barely knew the man, yet she was in love with him. He barely knew her, yet I had a feeling that he loved her too. How was this love....this ridiculous love...able to flourish so easily!? I've scanned over the facts several times, and yet none of it makes sense.
He's on his way home from his brother's wedding. Ayumi runs him over, nearly getting him killed. He gets sent to the hospital. Ayumi point blank refused to stay with him when he requested, and in front of him no less. I make her stay, she comes home immedietly the next day. She doesn't answer his phone calls.
And yet...there's love here. HOW?
I grit my teeth. I did a background check on this Alphonse guy while Ayumi was out, and I didn't like what I found.
Alphonse came from a family of people who liked to dissapear. His mother, who ran out on his father and never showed again. After that, his father went on a cross country trip and was never heard from again. The two brothers ended up raising themselves for a large portion of their life, then were taken in by a woman named Pinako. At around the age of 18, Edward off and left for 2 whole years without any given warning or explanation. Alphonse held down the fort until his brother returned, married, and now lives apart from him.
I didn't like that.
I lean back and suck air through my teeth. Lets take this to an extreme, shall we? Suppose Alphonse and Ayumi get married. With his family history, he'd for sure walk out on her. The image of Ayumi patiently waiting at a snow covered windowpane for her love to return was heartbreaking. I scoff. No, there was no way I was going to allow that to happen. I had to, at all costs, keep Alphonse away from her.
And vice versa.

Point of View: Alphonse
It's almost noon by the time I wake up.
I don't even move at first. Instead, I try to make sense of my dream. That girl...who was she? And that little kid...who was THAT? I close my eyes and take in a deep breath of air. Oh, thats who it was. That little girl was my interpretation of the niece I lost.
A sadness weights my chest, so I sit up and stretch. Sun is leaking through the window. I smile. Good. At least it will be a good-weather day. I stand up and give a loud yawn before making my way over to the phone and dialing Brother's number. It rings for awhile before he picks up.
"Hello?" "Hey Brother. I was just wondering...how is everything?"
He sighs. "Okay I suppose. I got her to eat a piece of toast for breakfast..."
I smile. "Well hey, thats a start!" A cough. "She threw it up moments after."
Oh.
I frown. "Does she have an eating disorder now?" I ask, feeling frustrated. "I dont know, but I was actually on my way to the convinence store to pick up some gum for her...yknow, like you said? But I'm scared to leave her alone...."
The line goes quiet.
"Alphonse..." Please don't say it... "Yes?" Please, please, PLEASE dont say what I think you want to...
"Would you mind coming over and watching her while I'm away?"
Aaaannndd....you said it.
I gulp. I haven't been alone with Koda since the "marriage" talk in the hospital. I lean back, unsure if I'll be able to control myself.
"Alphonse?" "Uh...sure."
And just like that, I was forced into confrontation. © 2011 Emunah June.Author's Note
