Chapter 27: Rehabilitation

Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump!

 

I sat down in front of my front door, knees to my chest and heart pounding loudly in my ears. I could still feel her lips pressed against my cheek. Her touch was as soft as a newborn's skin, and it was as fast as I could blink. I didn't understand why I was so worked up over it. I mean, Koda had kissed me on the cheek plently of times before, and my reaction to it had never been so violent before. I was incapacitated, unable to move or even think straight.

 

What was WRONG with me?!

 

I place a hand to my chest and try to catch my breath.

 

Calm down Alphonse...calm down...she was probably just trying to show her friendly side.

 

But I couldn't think.

I couldn't breathe.

I didn't even know what to say to myself.

 

She had caught me so off guard!! It's not like I was expecting it or anything!!! Just...just...BAM!!! There she was!! THERE WAS NO REASONING TO IT!!

 

I stand up and stagger to the bathroom, where I turn on the sink and splash my face with water. I plug the drain so I can soak my hands in the basin. As I watch my reflection ripple in the water below me, I try to regain my composure.

 

But it's not working.
