Chapter 26: Change of Heart

I woke up on the couch, a gasp escaping my lips.

 

I didn't even know I fell asleep! I sat up and let a yawn out, thinking about my dream over and over again.

 

Who is this "king"? And what does he want to talk about? This sure is confusing. I wish I'd just go dream about something else...

 

There's a sudden knock on my door. I jump, but then calm down and walk over to answer it.

 

"Hey Al!"

 

I blush. "A-Ayumi! What're you doing here?" I asked, shocked at such a random visit. She looks behind her. "Oh me? Well, just making sure everything is okay. I happened to see that...ahem...'grand exit' your brother and Koda made, so I didn't know if you were alright," she said with a smile.

 

I feel my heart do a double flip.

Oh wow, that was cute!

 

"I'm alright. I actually just woke up from a nap," I say, and she nods. Its quiet for a moment before I remember my manners. "Oh! Would you, uh, like to come in? I can make some coffee or something," I offered. Ayumi smiles, then shakes her head. "I would if I could, but I can't. Kaen's making dinner soon, and if I'm not back in time, he'll get really upset," she says. I get a bit dissapointed, but I understand completely. "Oh okay...well, if you'd like, you can come over for breakfast tomorrow," I invite. Ayumi stares for a moment, then smiles. "Okay sure! Kaen'll be at work anyway," she exclaimed, and I smile at her. Her energy sure was nice, especially after all that time crammed up in the hospital.

 

"Ayuuummmiii!!"

 

We both turn and see Kaen sticking his head out the front door. Ayumi blushes with embarrasment. "K-Kaen! I'm sorry! I was just checking on Alphonse to see if he was okay..." she began. Kaen simply placed his hands on his hips, and Ayumi laughed nervously. "Well I have to go. See you in the morning," she whispered as she waved goodbye.

 

But she wasn't moving.

I didnt move either.

 

She looked over her shoulder to see if Kaen is still there. He's not, and she smiles. She says something really fast before she stands up on her tippy toes and kisses my cheek.

 

I explode in blush.

She does too.

 

Ayumi catches my glimpse once more before bolting off to her house. I walk back inside and slam the door shut, my back leaning against the door.

 

She kissed me...she kissed me...!!!
