Once Upon a Very Brief Time

To my favourite married couple :D You know who you are XD

 

 

The clock ticks

And every day I know

I can lace my fingers with yours

And lean back in my chair

 

We're no longer kids

But we're not adults yet either

I can hear the soft sound of

Samantha's laughter in the room adjacent to us

But my eyes are closed

 

And I feel nothing

But your presence next to me

I can open my eyes

And see you

Smiling at me

Your eyes glimmering with our story

 

For the world to hear

 

One day, the world will whisper our names

Into the ears of the next generation

And from heaven we will gaze

At the ant farm below us

 

We'll watch our daughters

Rise to the peaks of their lives

One drawing out the world's map

And the other, well, we're still unsure

 

For now, I look to my left

And I look to my right

And take you in my arms

For the world we know was non-existent

Once upon a very brief time

 

It ended

Because I met you

My soulmate

 

So lets listen to the clock's heartbeat

And take each other in

Because who knows

How much longer we've got left?

He's so very devoted to his family.

It's almost like fairytail. Hence the poem name.

Beautiful. It makes me aware of how short life really is and that we need to cherish every moment. Wonderful poem for wonderful people. A few moments were better than others but that increased their impact. Very personal and loving. I adore it!
