Chapter Sixteen: Awakening

I wake up to Alfons shaking me mildly. My eyes whip open, and without meaning to I scream Koda's name in his face.

 

"Koda?" Alfons asks.

 

I relax, taking in deep breaths. He's staring at me with concerning eyes. I cough, my stomach feeling completely better. "Ed," he tries again, and I look at him.

 

"It's..it's nothing," I say, and I look away from him.

 

"Well...I'm bringing a couple over, so I'll be back with company. Go get the newspaper while you're up okay?" he said, already halfway out the door. I give a slight nod and sit up. He leaves, and I notice my chest is drenched in sweat. I wipe my eyes, which are about to be wet by delayed tears. I mumble the "f word" under my breath as I stand up. I'm dizzy, but I go take a shower, change into my outing clothes, and grab a banana on my way out.
