The Price To Pay (A Rewrite of Ed's Proposal)

The Price To Pay (A Rewrite of Ed's Proposal)

A Story by Emunah June.
"

The FMA:B proposal is cute. I feel threatened. Therefore, I must remake a proposal twice as cute!! Here I go!! It takes place in Reverse 2. Koda is not pregnant yet and they aren't even dating. Woah!

"

The debris lay all around us as we got off the hot air balloon. My face was scratched, my hands were rough, and I was pretty sure my knees were bleeding. Colonel Mustang clapped as Ed helped me out of the basket. "Aren't you three quite the heroes?" he asks as all 3 of us take a step forward. Al smiles at me, then at Ed. "Yeah...yeah we are, huh?" Ed says, putting his hand on his hip and leaning closer to the Colonel. The Colonel shoves his face away, and Ed just shakes his head.

His focus wasn't on Ed for long

"Miss Tucker," he says, and I lift my head and salute. "Sir!" I say obidiently. Colonel Mustang walks over to me and, in a swift angry motion, brings down my saluting hand. "You completely disreguarded a direct order from me! Is this your way of getting a promotion?!" he shouts. I grit my teeth. "I was doing what I knew would lead me to finding Edward!" I scream, and his face twists in anger as well. "To save one life you risked thousands! Hundreds are already dead thanks to Envy and it's all because of YOU!"

All because of me?

This comment was like a slap to the face. Hundreds...dead...was it really because of me? In my haste to save "Shamballa" did I release the very thing I was trying to kill? No. It couldn't have been me. It was an accident...a horrible horrible accident...

"Answer me, soldier!"

My eyes widened.

See you tomorrow...soldier.

Answer me, soldier!

Was that the only thing I was to men? A soldier? I look up at the Colonel, who's eyes are ablaze with anger. "I...I..." I begin, but the right words slip right inbetween my fingers. The Colonel scoffs. "I figured you couldn't answer. Why is that, Koda?" he says, in a softer tone. "Hey Colonel--" Al begins, but Ed holds him back. I look into Ed's eyes, and they say nothing.

Nothing...

"Why save just him?!" Colonel Mustang asks, pointing at Edward. Ed looks at me intently, almost as if he was asking the same question. I look to the ground, stunned and ashamed. How do I explain my rash actions?

There was only one way.

Blush invades my face. I look up, slowly, my heart beating hard. "That's simple..." I start. Everyone listens in, especially Ed, who is holding Al away from me. I close my eyes, then push them down hard. I clentch my fists.

"It's because I fell in love with him, Sir!"

Al nods, Ed gasps, and the Colonel is taken aback my decelration of love. "I just wanted to see him...one more time...before he ran off and married Winry. You can understand that can't you?" I say in a low voice. Ed's arm has dropped to his waist, and his mouth is open wide. His face is just as red as mine when the Colonel looks over at him. I turn away and start to walk away. "Koda..." I hear Al whisper, but I ignore it. "You got me to say it," I say outloud, "now leave me alone."

*************************************************************************************************************************

It's dark out. The sun is just dipping over the horizon as I sit under a large oaktree outlooking the now demolished city of Resembool. I sit there, in agony, wondering if it really WAS my that caused such despair. All those dead men...women...children...

"There you are, you jerk."

I look behind me to see Ed, with one hand in a pocket. His face is pink, and his eyes are squinted. Like a mix between anger and confusion, almost.

I'm too scared to say anything. My face is red, I'm sure, but that doesn't seem to matter much. "Koda..." he begins, but I look away. "What, you come to make fun of me?" I ask, and he says nothing. Instead, he sits down next to me. I don't dare look at him.

I don't have to.

Forcibly, he throws me into him in a tender hug. I blush, but I don't return the hug. He hugs me tighter, almost like he's trying to get me to hug him. I close my eyes and let the sweat drip inbewteen my eyes.

Don't cave in...don't let him play games with you...

Suddenly, I felt Ed pulling me downward...

Downward...wait...DOWN THE HILL?!?

"Hold on!" he shouts, and I immedietly clasp my arms around him and let out a gasp as we tumble down the hill. His body slams against mine several times, and it hurts everytime it happenes. But the hill is grassy and sleek, so soon we're on the borrom, him on top of me. I catch my breath for a moment, breathing heavy. "What was that for?!' I ask, but he doesn't reply. Instead, he lifts his body up so he's only a few inches off of me. His face relaxes into an easy smile as he looks down at me.

"Thank you."

"T-Thank you?" I repeat, and he nods. "Thank you for making me feel so...alive. I knew it would be you," he says in a sweet tone. I try to sit up, but his hands clamp down on my wrists and pins me to the grass. "You knew what, Ed?" I ask, and he simply smiles. It's a long silence before either of us spoke again. "Ed, can I get up now?" I ask, blushing. He grins deviously, a look I knew all too well. "It's gotta be a fair exchange, Koda. You have to do what I say if you want me to let you get up," he says. I blush. What, was he gonna make me get on my knees and bark? "Fine. What is it?"

"Marry me."

My eyes widened, and I scanned his face over for any sign of a joke. He was smiling, but it didn't look like it was a joke. "Wh-What?" I ask, to make sure that it's not some kind of sick joke he was playing. "You heard me. Be my wife and I'll let you get up," he said, clentching my wrists tighter.

I had no idea what to say. Was this really happening? Was Ed really proposing to me? We hadn't even dated yet! "You-Your wife?" I studder, and he nods. "Why?" I ask, and he takes in a deep breath. "Koda, I've loved you for as long as I can remember. I felt like I was dying without you in Germany. And if you risked the lives of 1000s to see me again, then let's cut to the chase. Forget dating, let's just marry. Please?" he asks, and I can't help but blush.

He wasn't kidding.

My face is red, my throat is dry, and all blood flow to my wrists is lost. "Are you sure you're in love with ME, and not with what I DID?" I ask, making sure I wasn't being fooled. Ed nods as he releases one of wrists and fishes into his pocket. He pulls out a ring with no case. "So thats a yes?" he asks, and a smile slowly creeps onto my face. "Of course," I say in a low tone. He sits up, I sit up, and he slips the ring on my finger. "Mine," he says in a low voice before he grabs me and kisses me.

It's the best thing I've ever felt.
