Reverse Scene Draft (Wedding)

Reverse Scene Draft (Wedding)

A Story by Emunah June.

"You look wonderful!"

I stared at myself in the elegant mirror. Who was this blushing bride, this girl who looked over-excited? I sighed, then blushed as I did a twirl.

Oh, really? It's me?

"Thanks, Winry," I said, staring myself down. My wedding dress fell to the floor sweetly, making me look more royal than I really am. My hair was up in a tight ponytail, and a small see-through veil covered my face.

Winry stood close to me, playing with my dress and making sure I was ready for the big day. I smiled at her, trying hard not to show how nervous I really was.

But she could tell that I was quaking in my heels. She waltzed over quietly and started undoing my hair. "Koda..." she whispered, and I blushed. As she started braiding my hair (why BRAIDING?) she began to talk.

"Koda, you're nervous. I can tell. Don't be. You've already won."

"Won what?"

"The battle."

"The Battle of Shamballa?"

"No. The battle for Ed's heart."

I froze at this. There was a battle? When? And who was I battling against? "Winry?" I say, coming out more of a question than a name. She shook her head, her ponytail swaying from side to side. "I was really interested in him. I mean, who couldn't be? Blonde hair, gold eyes, and a sexy demeanor. It was easy to fall for him."

My eyes widened. I knew it!!

"But I could see the way he looked at you. The way his eyes shrone whenever you walked into the room. It was obvious. So that night when you told me Ed kissed you, I wasn't surprised. You've won, and you two are a heaven-made couple."

"Oh. Winry, I--"

"Relax. I don't like him anymore."

"But I--"

"Koda, I was rooting for you two the whole time."

I smiled, then teared up. I couldn't believe that Winry gave up the guy she loved for me. Such kindess. Which made me wonder: whould I have given up all my love for Ed to have him marry Winry? Maybe. Maybe not. I didn't know.

Suddenly, the photographer came in. "Can I get a picture of the bride and Maid of Honor?" he asked in a high pitched tone. Winry held onto my shoulders behind me as the man snapped a photo, encasing the moment. I eased my face from the smile and looked at my new hair. Pretty. Very pretty. "I WAS into fashion, remember?" Winry said. I smiled, and was about to say something before I heard organ music in the hall.

It's time.

********************************************************************

I gulp loudly as the doors in front of me open. There's my dad, standing there. Oh dear. He's crying. Dad never cries. I slowly waltz to him, my eyes hidden by the large boquet in my hands.

My arm links with his, and we slowly walk together. "You've grown up so fast, baby," he tells me, and I feel myself welling up too. "Thanks Dad," I say, and he smiles at me.

I look into the pews. I see everybody that cares about me sitting there and smiling at me. Mom...Grandma....Havoc...even a few customers that really liked the job I did on their AutoMail.

Winry soon comes out of the bathrooms with Nina in tow. Nina is looking around suspiciously, and when she sees me she yells "Momma!!". I laugh, and Dad laughs with me too.

Dad lets go, and I peek over the flowers just in time to see him.

Edward.

Oh geez. Here we go. "You ready?" he whispers, linking his arm into mine. I nod, enjoying the warmth between us.

We stand up to the podium, now standing directly across from one another. He's smiling away, and I'm feeling the tears coming. All of our pain...our hardships...they were all paying off right now.

Our wedding.

Ed stares at the pastor, and the man smiles kindly as he begins the Prelude of Vows:

"We are gathered here today to witness the bonding between these two lovely people..."

I stare right into Ed's eyes the entire time. The urge to kiss him runs heavy within my blood, and I claw at the flowers to control myself. He's got his hands in his pockets, looking right through me. I can hear what he's thinking, and I blush.

Finally, we get to the good part.

"Do you, Edward Elric, take Koda Tucker to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

Tension rises in my chest. As expected, he lets out a heartfelt "I do," and all eyes lay on me.

"Do you, Koda Tucker, take Edward Elric to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Sweat drips off my face, and I hesitate with my answer. "I--" I start, but then Nina starts to giggle and throws flowers everywhere. Everyone laughs at our daughter's cute gesture as Winry picks her up and looks at me. Her eyes glistens as she mouths 2 words to me.

Say yes.

I look back at Ed, who's face is heavy with concern. "I do!!" I say happily, and the room erupts in happy laughter. Ed smiles wide, and I do too. I don't fight the tears. I let them roll sweetly down my face.

The pastor has caught our smiles. "Then by the power given to me by Christ, I now give Ed permisson to lift the veil. Sever all secrets and be joined as husband and wife."

Ed walks over to me, smiling big. He lifts my veil and throws it ovre my head. "I love you," I say. He smiles, grabbing my shoulders. "I know," he whispers before leaning in and resting his lips against mine.

I let loose then. I drop the bouquet and hug him around the neck. Everyone begins to cheer and clap as Ed sways me from side to side. Finally, he departs from my lips and picks me up bridal style. I start to laugh loudly as Nina begins to throw the rest of the flowers. "Momma!! Daddy!!" she shouts over my obnoxious laughing.

Ed is laughing too. He turns to the crowd with me still in his arms. "She's all mine!!" he shouts, and that makes everyone cheer harder.

I throw the boquet out to the audience, and Hawkeye catches it. She looks at the Colonel, who blushes and doesn't return her gaze.

Its only a matter of time.

Ed sets me down and grabs my hand. "We need to make a dash for it!" he shouts. I stare at him blankly as we begin to run down the stairs.

Suddenly everybody takes a bottle of champagne, shakes it up, and pops the cork open. Alchohol is spraying everywhere, and Ed and I both laugh as we head for the exit. "I'll watch Nina!" she shouts over the commotion as Ed pushes the door open and we run down the stairs.

One of those fancy cars from Central are waiting for us. Ed opens the door and ushers me in. He gets in and the driver in front smiles. "Where to?" he asks. Ed smiles. "The river!" he says, and the man nods.

I lean on Ed's shoulder. He pulls me close and kisses my forehead. "You're all mine, now. Nobody elses," he says, and I can only nod. I close my eyes, my body feeling heavy.

I was rooting for you two the whole time...

I grab Ed and pull him closer to me too. "You're mine, now? You hear? All mine!" I say, and he nods and he kisses me one more time.
