Happy New School Year!!

Happy New School Year!!

A Story by Emunah June.

"HAPPY NEW SCHOOL YEAR!"

Everyone treated it as if it was a New Year's party. Koda smiled, looking at all her friends. Sasana sat in the corner with her boyfriend, William, smiling away at the world. Koda liked that about her. She was always smiling.

Then her gaze drifted towards Yumiko, who was playfully tugging on her boyfriend Alphonse's arm. Yumiko would giggle and whisper something to Al, and he'd blush as he'd grip her hand.

Then there was Keevan, who was at the snack table, carefully deciding what to consume. Koda nodded, deciding that Keevan was a deep thinker. Keevan seemed to understand a whole lot more than she'd ever let on. Koda found it an interesting trait.

Edward sat in one of the dining chairs, playfully making eye contact wth her. Oh geez, was she staring? Koda looked away and tried to hide her smiling expression. Ed was so gorgeous. A total hottie, but he was known to be quite a flirt around school. He'd date one girl and move onto another one within an hour. A poor trait, but one that seemed to attract her all the more.

Why was she worrying about romance on a night like this? It was the last night of freedom, the last night of summer break. Live it up while you can, Koda told herself as she sipped on a can of Cola.

Live it up while you can.

((YUMIKO'S POV))

Oh geez, Al was making her look stupid. "Come with me to the punch bowl," she had asked, tugging on his arm. Al inhaled deeply, looking not at her but at Keevan. A raging case of jealousy spread through her veins. How dare he look at another girl! Wasn't she supposed to be the only thing he saw? That's what love was supposed to be, right?

"Al!" she called, tugging onto his shirt sleeve one more time. Al finally stopped looking at Keevan long enough to gaze into her aggitated brown eyes. "I'm sorry, what?" he said, and Yumiko scoffed. "Come with me to the punch bowl," she insisted again. Al nods, no longer staring at Keevan but at Sasana, who's gently kissing William in the back of the room. Those two have quite the PDA. They never cared who was watching them. They just went at it.

They were in love. Stuff like that was okay.

Yumiko drags Al to the punch bowl, and he's still staring at the Sasana-William makeout session. "Staring is rude," she whispers, and Al reluctantly grabs a foam cup and pours himself a drink.

Yumiko shakes her head. Al doesn't know how to party. He was the quiet shy type. Sure, she was heavily attracted to him, but sometimes he was a downer.

Ooh, Ed's turning on the radio. What song was this? Ah, it was Hot Mess. Who sang that? Wasn't it Cobra Starship? Yumiko shrugs her shoulders. "Let's dance!" she commands, but Al is in the middle of a drink and can't answer. His eyes wander back to Sasana and William, who are leading one another to the dance floor. Yumiko sighs. Why can't her and Al be like that? So much in love with each other? Sasana and William were drunk off of it. Yumiko's eyes sagged sadly. Whatever they were drinking, Yumiko wanted some. That way Al would pay more attention to her.

((SASANA'S POV))

William sure can dance! The music is loud, and somehow he's able to keep in step. He claims to have never taken dance classes, but Sasana thinks he's a big USO, a big liar.

Well you're a hot mess and I'm falling for you...

The music held NO lies, however. William sure was a hot mess, and she had fallen for him hard. Quietly, William grabs her hand and leads her into a crazy dance. "Shake it, Sassy!" he shouts, and she laughs. William could always make her laugh. He was good like that.

The song changes. Now it's some song titled Catch Me. Some chick named Demi Lovato. Sasane doesn't really care. William smiles as he places her hand on her hip.

Keep it sweet....but keep it slow...

The song sounded like it was giving William directions. Quietly he lead her into a slow dance that hypotized her through and through. Her head leaned back, looking to see what everyone else was doing. Keevan was talking with Edward, who looked like he was about to fall asleep. Sasana smiled. Ed never really DID listen to people did he?

Koda was looking around, making sure her party didn't get out of control. Sasana grinned happily. There was a reason she was her best friend. Now was one of those reasons. Koda always seemed to be together, to have her motives straight. Totally unlike herself, who just went wherever her heart lead her. Like right now, it was leading her to stay focused on this moment with William.

Not like they won't have any more, but still.

((Keevan's POV))

Wow this party was uncoordinated. Nobody really knew what they were doing. If you werent the "fly off your seat" type, then you didn't belong here. Even the guests were lazy! Like this kid she met, named Ed. He had a nice body and a cute smile. Perhaps that was the only reason she started talking to him.

That brunette in the back kept looking at her. What was her issue? Keevan shrugged, then looked back at the hot blonde. "So that's what happened. Weird huh?" she said, trying to lift the mood. Ed sighed, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, uh, sure."

Jerk.

"Look, did you even hear a word I said?" she asked, and Ed just rolls his eyes again. Keevan is quite annoyed. Sure, he was hot, but he looked distracted. Almost pale. What was he looking at so intensly anyways? It wasn't a person, but a thing outside the window. Keevan peeked, but saw nothing but shining stars.

He just didn't want to listen.

"Am I boring you?" Keevan asked, hoping to get her point across. Ed looks at her, then smiles. "Oh no. Please. Keep talking," he says, and Keevn stares at him. This boy sure knew how to send mixed signals.

She didn't know whether to find it attractive or annoying.

((Edward's POV))

He had to keep Keevan talking. If he didn't, he's have no one to talk to. His brother was busy toying with Yumi-Chan. Sasana and William could lay off the mouth-to-mouth for more than five seconds. And Koda? Pfft. Forget it. She was way out of his league. Too cute. Too happy go lucky. And what was sad about this? He was older than her, and yet he was a grade under her. Stupid kindergarten teacher. If he wanted to colour on the walls, then she should have just let him. Keeping him back for another year was NOT the answer.

The song changes. What is it now? Oh, it's just Tik Tok. Stupid Ke$ha. He hated her.

"This is a real party song, aint it?" Keevan asked, her lips parting into an uneasy smile. Ed looks her directly in the eyes and lies. "Sure is. I love this song." Hey, if it keeps someone talking to him, he was happy. He hated being bored.

Yumiko drags Al to the dance floor. He stand there, looking absolutely clueless. Yumiko dances naturally, as if she praticeed the routine last night. She sure can dance, he thought. And then there was Al, who was trying to copy her movements but was too stupid to do so. Ed laughs. Its kinda funny.

Koda walks past them, and Ed's heart freezes. What was she wearing? A simple black dress with a milky laced fringe. Attractive, yes, but again she hadn't said a whole word to him all night.

Keevan looks at Koda, then back at Ed. "Wanna hear a funny story about my brother Charlie?" she asked, and Ed sits up, pretending to be interested. "Of course! Tell me everything!"

((Koda's POV))

Its an hour later, and everyone is going home. Yumiko had (sonehow) convinced Al to carry her bridal style home. Al looked satisfied. Good. It was nice to know they had a good time.

Keevan is next. "Thanks for inviting me," she says, smiling. Koda smiles back. "No problem!" she says warmly. The two shakes hands, and Keevan walks away into the night.

Sasana and William walk out, arms linked. "You two were the life of the party!" Koda says, and Sasana smiles, kissing William's cheek. "Thanks Koda. Rad party," Sasana's says, hugging her best friend tight. Koda hugs back, happy to be with her friend again.

Here's the big moment: Ed is coming. Koda stands up straight, trying not to fall. After all, her Dad had bought her new high heels for tonight's party.

Ed walks out, then looks her in the eyes and gives her one of those body melting smiles. "Nice party, Tucker," he says, and she smiles awkwardly. "T-Thanks." She stuttered. Great. Thats what all the magazines told her not to do.

Suddenly her earring slips off. It clinks to the carpet below her feet. She's too scared to bend over and get it. Good thing Ed's a gentleman. He picks it up for her. "Thanks," she says, but he's not done yet. He leans in really close and slips the earring back into her ear.

Koda can't control herself. His mouth is stationed right in front of hers. Follwing mere impulse, Koda leans forward and gently pecks him on the lips. He frrezes up, nearly dropping the earring. Koda stares, her face hot. Oops.

Ed simply smiles, then grabs her shoulders as gives her a kiss only seen in movies. She tries not to enjoy it too much, but its too hard. Finally, he lets go and walks out of the room. Koda watches him walk away, too scared to even beg for his phone number.

It doesn't matter. She never hears from him again.

Sasana drops out of high school, and William follows her.

Keevan loses all contact with Koda.

Yumiko and Al finish high school, and go off to the same college. They later get married with 2 kids.

And as for Koda? Well, nobody really knows what happened to her either.

I don't know why, but everytime I wrote "Sasana", I somehow kept spelling it "Sasane". Weird.
