Bathroom Sink [The Other Woman]A Poem by Emunah June."...but I don't think he can hear you."I have
to pose the question: Is it possible to floss someone’s
name out from between your teeth over the bathroom sink ; late at
night after he’s asked you not to say a
word?
You’ve
never seen his face, nor heard his voice. But
you’ve convinced yourself he loves you. All it took was a few sweet words
exchanged over red faces and one sided smiles. You’ve blocked out images of what
the sin is underneath. “Only
fools fall for you.”
Its
only him in this zero hour. You co
exist on a plane between waterfalls of hopelessness and you just drink the heart of ice
cubes because it is just as
cold as the answers you know are there.
But
the tempo of the song in the air changes when he oh so casually
mentions That he’d like to kiss you.
And
maybe you would have kissed him, too if
your hands knew where to reach. You
spend hours pawing at a thick curtain under the excessive sounds of a
speeding ceiling fan.
Each
peek provides answers in the tune of falsetto. Who is
listening anyway?
But he still wants to kiss you.
And you want to
kiss him, too. But you don’t know where he is. Stars cannot illuminate the path neither one of
you has traveled. You think of Price & Caulfield, how --“This is so
similar!”"
but I
don’t think he can hear you.
Quiet
flirting aside, he tells you to hold on. That,
when his sword is in the holster, he
will rescue you.
But his sword has
a name, and she’s going
to be upset you let him talk to you like this.
