To Define Outstanding [Beautiful]

Beauty has evaded even the most

experienced of pens.

To be beautiful

is to have something different

that no other soul

can ever quite possess.

To be beautiful

is to have a shining star

between grubby fingers

and melting heart shards.

To be beautiful

is to recognize need and nurture

to be a friend to the friendless

and a thought for the thoughtless.

To be beautiful

is to love the lonely

and to make each step count

in a world with no direction.

To be beautiful

is to shine with hope

and wrap those rays in bright bows

for those who feel they have nothing to give.

But what about "outstanding"?

What does it take to be outstanding?

To be outstanding

is to take your beauty

and forget it is there;

to love the lost and amplify

the sound of forgiveness

when the world has gone

silent!

To be outstanding

is to forget what it means

to have "talent" or skill;

to remember glitter doesn't make

the feelings underneath any

shinier.

To be outstanding

is to love thy neighbor

when the city slams its doors

shut!

because of past mistakes and foggy

regrets.

To be outstanding

is to be

understanding.

To lack these qualities

is to not only be ugly

but to know stone

better than water.

One cannot simply put

a crown on a garbage can

and call it queen.

To be outstanding

is to know it

and not let others

see it peeking through

skinny cracks.

To be outstanding

is to have a voice

but to not

let it speak for you

when your hands have more to say.

To be outstanding

is to love the liars

and the losers

because you know you once

were both.

To be outstanding

is not to rock a fancy dress

but to rock the idea that

only the perfect ones

deserve to win titles.

To be outstanding

is to cast shadows over hurt

and to love the anger out of bullies

rather than bullying them

back.

To be outstanding

is to accept "sorries" when you get them

and to give them out

even when you have nothing else

to say.

To be outstanding

is to be understanding.

When you look at your reflection

in that mirror by your portrait,

can you honestly tell me that you

are a beautifully

outstanding

person?

Put the crown down.

Your royalty is undeserved.
