Darling [My Prince Who Believes In My King]

Darling [My Prince Who Believes In My King]

A Poem by Emunah June.

Darling, listen

I know you've got a lot on your mind

The world seems stacked against you

And as your lonely soul rests alone at the lunch table

You find it hard to manage that smile I fell in love with

And I know that as you toss your backpack aside

Throwing your tired bones against your creaking mattress

You just want to close your eyes, to mean something to someone

To me

So look up for a moment and breathe in my words

Your crown is tilted, your chin points to the floor

Your clothes are torn from temptation's dirty fingernails

And even when you tell me "Love, I'm fine!"

I can see the ache of fatigue flooding your gaze

But even so

You put time aside to cast your arms around me

To kiss the top of my head, to let me know I'm loved

And even when I tap my lips against yours

My butterflies drip with guilt

For as their wings are bright and bursting with life

Yours are torn and are struggling to survive

So I'll take my hands

Donning my own sick repertoire of scars

And fix that crown I know can gleam so easily

And Ill fix your chin up, facing the heavens

So that way you can become the prince I've always known you were

The prince that God created you to be, for me or for your future her

And while you sleep

I'll take your clothes and sew them back to royal status

Washing them in the tears I've shed for you

Those tears spilt against clean, unwritten letters

Against the fabric of that jacket you've let me wear for so long

Your my prince who believes in my King

And these tears will feed the flower of us

So when you don your clothes

I can be the princess who cared

So darling

Anytime you come home broken

Sad

Forgotten

An enigma amoungst an agnostic fog

Read this letter and know

That there are no white dresses

No rings

No pitter patter of children

And yet

Even so

I am & always have been yours

So darling

Rest those loving arms against me

And close your bright lively eyes

And when you wake

I'll still be here

Ready to love you

This is a story about a woman seeing all the great things in the broken one she loves. Your poem is a sincere attempt to show the 'prince' his own true reflection, the one he is blinded from seeing. I like how your story-telling method has progressed, especially in the parts of kind requests like: "So darling, rest those loving arms.." The last few stanzas tasted of sad devotion. There would be no promises or looking forward to white dresses, but he would always find you near by. Sweet and heart-breaking. Thank you for posting.
