Run Away With Me [Spectrum]

Run Away With Me [Spectrum]

A Poem by Emunah June.
"

We'll run when the lanterns die.

"

Sweetheart

Put your pen away

The moon has risen

And the streets are washed of life

The windows are shut

And the ovens have stopped

The scent of smoke has cleared

And in its wake has left a cobblestoned road

Lets paint it yellow

And never stop running

Run away with me.

The lights are benevolent

Yet they burn that precious skin I wish to kiss

Lace your fingers with the fabrics of mine

And lets dash against the bullets grazing our cheeks

No one has to know about the secret in whispered cloth

Lets just pretend we're coloured white and pale and pure

Run away with me.

No one will ever love you like I do.

I keep my passionate flame under wrapped sheets

Encasing myself in a glass box

Roses dotted along your signature

I'll keep it burning, keep it alive

Even as the fear gnaws at the overexposed muscles

In the back of my throat

I breathe in your toxins

And as I push you out

My heart beats against my sleeve

I talk too much.

Run away with me.

I can't say I'll be the perfect wife

I can't say I'll be the perfect....anything

But I can promise

As sure as the words I've etched into the pages of my diary

I will never let you go.

You're mine

And mine only.

So lets forget the words they plaster against our limbs

Forget the names they call me

You

Us

And lets run away.

We'll run when the lanterns die

When the fog swallows the streets whole

When our protesters voices are eased by slumber

Our silence will be sweet and swift

And as we reach the bridge

I see him, standing tall and proud,

Reaching a hand out to end the suffering.

He's calling us.

Lets run away.

Run away with me.

I like it a lot!!! At first, though, because of your picture, I wasn't sure if you were supposed to be a boy or a girl. I was like, hmmm this sounds like a girl... But this was great! I was wondering if it was supposed to be a song.

Ahh I love it! This definitely defines a lover where she stands with the romance in her heart. Its also nice to see a poem of romance/love in a girls perspective fore a change. All around well done.
