I Wish My Name Was Emily [Weed & Premaritals]

I Wish My Name Was Emily [Weed & Premaritals]

A Poem by Emunah June.
"

That bookworm who speaks to the machines? Where did she go?

"

I wish my name was Emily

So people wouldn't see my memories

Sewn into my shirt sleeves

Mocking me under smoky breath

That reeks of weed and premartials

Saying "Look at her

That bookworm

Isn't she the one that talks to machines?"

I wish my name was Emily

So when I put my headphones in

I can hear someone say that I have

Sparkling eyes

And that, for me, he'll defy the fate of thunderstorms

I wish my name was Emily

So I would finally feel loved

I wish my name was Emily

So I could be someone new

And maybe I'll be blessed with a new face

Body

Home

And I can start new

And whenever I look at the food in front of me

I don't feel the need

To poke my throat cavity

From the inside

With my fingers that type so much

I wish my name was Emily

So maybe he'll see me

For how I feel

And not how I look

And I can reverse the wheels

And kick up the churches

For now I'll let him marry me

Now, I'm not Faith, I'm Emily

Someone new.

I wish my name was Emily

So when they see me, not her

They'll mumble in the halls

"That bookworm

That speaks to those machines?

Where did she go?"

And I can watch as some laugh

Some cry

Some lives fall apart

(But not many

For the machines continue

Despite missing a gear.)

I wish my name is Emily

So when I show up to her funeral

(With no body

The machine's ate her, the papers said)

I can join the crowd

Who laughs at such a pathetic being

And they wont see my tears

When they say "Hey Emily!

Look at her, what a fool!"

Great job, the message in the poem is that the character is its own critic. Thank you, hope you like my review of your amazing work.

Deep, and yet only scratches the surface of more to come. Much hidden in this piece. Nice job!
