Shoot the Stars and SkiesA Poem by GordonShoot the stars and skies like men on high Shine on, go beyond and don Your crowns of kings and queens Be big, metaphorically, Yet small enough to know humility Be strong enough to carry those you love Along with all the mistakes you’ve made Be weak enough to need love And generous enough to bleed Spend a lifetime chasing shadows Refusing to ever hide in your own Rest only when necessary, But dream big at every opportunity When times are dark and ominous, Crawl to the light and bathe within it Let it carry you through the dreary night Believe you will burn bright again And when you do, seek out the lost And light their way up the treacherous hill After all, someone held a candle for you Run when you have to And know when to be still Be a good, patient listener Then speak only from your heart Remember that when you soar upon the wind, The world below looks up to you Know what it's like to laugh and cry Learn what makes innocence sublime Paint with a broad brush only once in your life As your pallet may run dry Ascend in all directions And shine like a star in the blackened sky And as long as night remains... Shoot the stars and skies like men on high. © 2014 GordonAuthor's Note
