You, my Forgotten God

You, my Forgotten God

A Poem by Emma Callen

you
and that forgotten mouth.

Despite your steel fingertips,

I shook for you, once:

the clouds opened like pollen

onto the earth, they took me. But

your pride rolled in, swallowed me, shook me,

weighed me down with hours of rain, hours
of watching your rolling lips-

I was lost,
shaking
looking for music, a chord
to strike sense, like the exhaling

of a piano.

‘Til I became ivory
left bare, remembering.
