Tell me, Why do we change?

Tell me, Why do we change?

A Poem by ems92

I met her the other day for lunch.
The vibrancy she left with years ago was different, duller.
She still smiled when she talked,
But her laughter felt incomplete.
Her eyes were tired,
Worn.
A spark that used to inspire me, gone
Or maybe it was just wearing a gray or sober veil to hide from something,
Or to hide something from others.
Words still collapsed out of her,
But slowly.
And she still had her usual sense of wit and intelligence,
But she seemed hesitant to show it.
We shared ideas of philosophy,
Religion.
Tell me, why do we change?
She hugged me hard.
We said goodbye.
I drove home in a strange silence.
Tell me, why do we change?

She spoke with a happiness most people wouldn't classify as happy.
Maybe it was a mixture of happiness through fulfillment but a sadness because it was over.
Tell me, why do we change?

"Or maybe it was just wearing a gray or sober veil to hide from something" really liked this line the contrast between gray which holds the connotation's of ambiguity and sober being the complete opposite really makes you question who has changed in the poem, good read.
