Natural Affect

Natural Affect

A Poem by Donald Ray Heistand
"

Better to just read it.

Natural Affect

Bathed in a willow’s soothing shade,
whispering waters glisten all around.
Grass conforms, a cool caress to my skin,
moss mounds a consummate pillow.
Lithe vines loop velvet about me.
Chirping sweet arias, birds wreathe my head.
Deer congregate within the calming stream,
they smile and softly call my name.
Wings wafting their rapture to my nose,
butterflies waltz betwixt flowers flared.

So many flowers

A Sob breaks in
Chafing sentience
My eyes burst open
Plastic tent smothers
Sheets crawl with sweat
Fly spittle defiles flesh
Treasonous tubes writhe
Bleeping spites the ear
Dear kin surrounds,
they are not smiling
Chaos dulls mazed nostrils
Gong sound appalls
My eyelids frown
Man’s reprieve intrudes
God’s man thrust aside
again
I shut my eyes

Again.
