The Very Thought Of You

The Very Thought Of You

A Poem by Nicholas Hagenschneider

the thought of you once made me happy

the thought of you once made me smile

the thought of you now makes me sick

boiling rage in my stomach all the while

you stab me again and again

tearing apart the last drops of feelings i had for you

you stab me again and again

tearing apart the remaining emotions i felt for you

i want to be the one to tell you

i want to be the one who watches

as you meltdown in sadness

i want you to know what it is

to once again drop your heart

into another unfixable puzzle

but if you think your smart

you'd steer clear of the trouble

when you need me most

when you reach out for me

i will be the one to turn my back on you

like you did to me
