A Sorrowful Smile

A Sorrowful Smile

A Poem by Nicholas Hagenschneider

this world is trembling

this world is dying

this world is shivering

this world is crying

and as you crumble

fake and alone

you reach for the bottle

for something to hold

you deliver the lies

with a sorrowful smile

the truth in your eyes

all the while

your blood drips from your wrist

as your tears fall from your cheek

you find that momentary bliss

that freedom that you seek

and as you fall apart

fake and alone

you reach the bottom

this place a hated a home

you deliver the lies

with a sorrowful smile

the truth in your eyes

all the while
