Sleep

Sleep

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

I was drifting
I glanced with my lazily opened eyes to my alarm clock
Well aware tomorrow the damned device
Would be my worst enemy

My body.
Defeated by the weight of the world
The sweet sound of silence.
It slipped and slid upon my ear drums

I began to give up
My lids drifted together
Lashes intertwined
I needed to unwind

After a while I stopped the fight
And my sweet dreams
Took flight
