Bus Ride

Bus Ride

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

I lay back and closed my eyes

Pretending I wasn’t there

Trapped within steel and glass

Shoved into a leather seat with no one but a stranger

I zoned out

Trying to sleep

Trying to appear in a dream land

That I somehow found familiar

I often visited there

When where I was, was against where I desired to be

Enclosed by the gateway between my mind and body

To my mind my body was simply an outsider

I could not remain calm

I could not settle in

No choice but to leave my sweet dreams behind

I needed to pass the time

Eventually I found a connection

My body and my mind fell in line

I swept my finger across the cold glass windowpane

It was my canvas, this art was what kept me sane

Though trapped within this steel and glass is where I will stay

Until the door opens and I run away
