Light

Light

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

The door opens

You flip the switch

Thousands, Millions of fluorescent bodies

They are running

They are running as fast as their microscopic legs can take them

They fill the room, giving light

They dance down your shoulders

They provide sight

They provide life

They wipe away your tears

They disintegrate the sorrow

The lights dim and the loudness, the happiness quiets

The roars become whispers

The switch goes off

They run away

All of them

The darkness returns

Along with your sorrow

Your regret returns

And so do the tears

A lovely little poem that shows how the light can banish fears and how we should always follow it:) very nicely written!

This felt pretty original on the face of it, the light darkness duality was witty and entertaining. And for the strangest reason, all I could think of while reading this were fireflies.
