Chasing Dreams

Chasing Dreams

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

I followed them

Leaving the rest behind

I ran, feet bare

Along the sun-drenched asphalt

I hid

Police sirens radiating my eardrums

They wouldn’t stop me

No one would

I looked

The coast was as clear as a summer’s day

I continued my journey

The sun went down

The sky, painted with stars

It couldn’t stop me

Nothing could

I couldn’t break

I couldn’t lose myself

Kept my concentration

No time for conversation

It seemed like forever

Impatience was my enemy

One day I will find them

I fight for what is mine

I don’t consider that a crime
