To the boy who took advantage of me

To the boy who took advantage of me

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

I told you that I loved you
Your love wasn’t the same kind
Until the summer when my belly shrank
And you had changed your mind
I found this quite suspicious
But hey, I had you in my arms
You told me that you loved me
In the end it caused me harm

I did more than I should have
I just wanted your smile
I would give you just an inch
And you would take a mile
I didn’t want to lose you
But you had other plans
I told you to be honest
You held me in your hands

Time and time again you lied
You had me on a string
With time you would snap it back
Which just worsens the sting

I told you that I loved you
Responses few and far between
You said that you were there for me
But that isn’t what you mean
You wanted to be comfortable
So you dragged me by your side
I’m not your puppet though, my dear
So I guess I’ll say goodbye

Over time I’ve learned my worth
For which you never gave me credit
And every time I think of you
It’s hard not to regret it
We used to be the best of friends
And now we’re distant strangers
You wanted somewhere in between
But that would put my heart in danger

Despite missing you once in a while
I can’t forget your crime
Undercover thief, my dear
You robbed me of my time
