DesperateA Poem by E.J. Michalec
This world is cruel
You should be used to it by now You’ve been bullied since middle school You’re still hurt but don’t know how Pining for love Instead get negative attention Everything burns Despite the purest intentions You deal with so much Yet your lips say so little Can’t catch a break or speak up You can’t have your acquittal You retrieve your broken pieces And behind you close the door Piece together your heart Don’t share it anymore Transparency isn’t welcome It causes discomfort Don’t tell me the truth Because you don’t want me to be hurt? I’d rather know I’m hated Than be wrapped up in your lies Contrary to what you believe It’s not warm and fuzzy inside Listen to me when I say You know that I’m a fighter I must become strong with myself To make the world feel lighter © 2018 E.J.
