FearlessA Poem by E.J. Michalec
Comfort in the norm became my addiction
Expectations of others? Chasing that was my mission Fitting the status quo made me unhappy But I convinced myself otherwise And that is what trapped me Get a job, go to school Live like everyone else And God forbid you care about your mental health My life was a collection of unwanted commitments I had to let go, I had to transition Now here I stand Time to figure it out Time to live fearlessly, without a doubt It's okay to step back To focus on you Before you judge others Put yourself in their shoes Just 'cause it ain't normal Doesn't mean that it's wrong I'm leaving the path I once traveled along Blazing my own trail, changing the tune of my song Because outside the "normal" is where I belong © 2017 E.J.
