Fearless

Fearless

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

Comfort in the norm became my addiction
Expectations of others?
Chasing that was my mission
Fitting the status quo made me unhappy
But I convinced myself otherwise
And that is what trapped me

Get a job, go to school
Live like everyone else
And God forbid you care about your mental health

My life was a collection of unwanted commitments
I had to let go, I had to transition
Now here I stand
Time to figure it out
Time to live fearlessly, without a doubt

It's okay to step back
To focus on you
Before you judge others
Put yourself in their shoes

Just 'cause it ain't normal
Doesn't mean that it's wrong
I'm leaving the path I once traveled along
Blazing my own trail, changing the tune of my song
Because outside the "normal" is where I belong

I loved your poem. You conveyed thoughts and emotions in such a way that it made the reader want to continue reading. Your poem was really good, and I look forward to reading more!

You write about interesting themes, as I have gleaned in my reading of your work. This one in particular speaks loudly and proudly to me in all its power and profundity! It's brilliant! I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what the first few lines mean (the punctuation is leading me astray, and it looks as though the "that" is actually supposed to be a "what"), but all in all, this is a type of call to arms for the Self that can resonate with many (and it amazes me how it has yet to be discovered and commented upon). Simply well done! This is a gem!
