Safety Belt

Safety Belt

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

You were the safety belt that snapped

The one who left me broken

Smashing through the windshield

With the shards of what we could've been

You said you wanted to hold me close

Until one day you just let go

You didn't come with a warning

So I trusted you with my life

That you did abuse

And now I lie with open wounds

Regretting the day I agreed

To come along for the ride
