Chapter 6
          Camille
My thoughts are interrupted by a smooth, low rumble. I glance over my shoulder and get a blurry glimpse of Riah's car being swerved back into the city. By the reckless manner in which it was driven, and considering our location, I suspect the thief was a Forsaken. "Are you kidding me?" Shouts Riah. He throws down his bottle and it smashes into the dirt, scattering in jagged pieces. Honestly, I'm surprised that his car was never stolen before. I was concerned about bringing a car right into Forsaken territory. You'd think it would be easy to track down a car in such a meager community. Unfortunately, that car will be stolen time after time until it runs out of fuel and is abandoned. Or, a more likely scenario, it will be crashed because Forsakens don't get to learn how to drive. This is just perfect. "Seen enough yet?" Riah asks irritated. I nod my head and we begin walking back toward the city. He pulls a flask out of his jacket pocket and takes a long swig. Of course. We file through the shacks and small structures, feeling out of place. I should be afraid here. I don't have the time to be afraid, though. As we awkwardly pace through the filth and debris, I continue trying to find a way out of the city. My thoughts always end abruptly when I have no answer. It is like sprinting at full speed and then having to stop at a dead end. A blank wall continues to throw itself up in my head, blocking the answers. Riah and I don't speak to each other; we just walk. He takes drinks out of his flask as we walk without conversation. It will take at least two hours to get back into the city. I'm so frustrated and disappointed. I don't know to get into the Dead Mile and I don't know how to save my brother. I viciously kick a rock that lies on the ground. Riah doesn't notice my frustration. He can't even walk in a straight line. I watch him stumble a bit and roll my eyes with irritation. It's probably a good thing that the car was stolen. I wouldn't want Riah behind the wheel. It has begun getting dark, and I know that could mean trouble.
