For me, empathy came natural. As my parents were either missing in action or bad at their jobs, I had much to learn on my own, and I missed a lot. I had poor manners, people skills, (still lacking in that department) and made bad grades in school. Being in that sad state, I related to others like me, feeling their pain and wanting to help in some way. Society wasn't always right in what it expected of us, so I rebelled and went my own way.

stories. You are a gently admired gent, sir - and you did that all by yourself. You are THE empathy thousands should learn of and from!
Dear EM
I believe we learn because we have the yearning to know about life...
we should empathize, yet it's a feeling that most people have, but not all...sociopaths have little or no feelings or empathy
I think society traps us in a way.. most times.we follow the pack, yet many times we protest and want what we want
this does not co-exist with society...and sometimes we pay for it
We can be leaders or followers...
There is much more to this poem than I am writing...and these thoughts should be debated in a group setting because they are important.... Excellent dear EM
Warmly, B
This message talks about how we learn, feel, and do things because of others, but it's not sure if it's good. It's like thinking about life and why we do stuff. Interesting work, Emma.
This poem made me think of the line "Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage" from the Smashing pumpkins song Bullet with Butterfly wings. As always Emma, you are a deep thinker and a profound writer.

I love words, always have but am more a story writer if anything, but, between this and that I just do my best and hope! Is true, I do think a lot, just as I love to learn something new every day!! Wishing you sunshine both inside and outside your heart!

Ditto dude, most deff sunshine, it has been to cold outside, Spring come quick........
Short and deep. We should all talk bout the last part more, we don’t even judge what society told us to do. That can be a really good book preface.
How do we repost someone else’s poem?!?!

Your structure, though interesting, and the poem, fair enough, seems as if two, but what enthralls as entangles me is outside the boundaries of its walls. The question is what happens when the voices to these things are not done, but rather the rebel walks forward into her heart and his or her fold or folly and raises the hand of poetry or humanity or simply madness. What happens at all behind the point and beyond my interpretation? I guess that Is the well-laid-out quandary in your poetry, and at the same time offered as two separate poems if read with emphasis, and in its offering~

society, the collective unconscious of any group, does have a power to "force," or "order" individuals to conform to certain norms. that's sometimes good, sometimes not so good. man is a social animal. but, the spirit does yearn for freedom. life is complex, and full of contradictions as this little poem suggests.

We do do, don't we?
We do what we want because sometimes we really do need to, but if more of us balanced it out with doing more of what we should, then we could all play on the seesaw without fearing we'd get launched into orbit by the next don't care Dan that comes along.
