Tried all sorts of things to help her. Have learned to put on music loudly - not heavy rock or rave BUT quite gentle music on higher decibels than usual, Also would never intentionally leave her alone. We love our darlings, don't we. :)
And if you're a bit late to the bonfire and don't particularly mind the health and safety (or lack thereof) you could always visit the up helly aa festival in the Shetland Isles, where they bring bonfires yo the people by swinging them around their heads and acting all viking. It is really quite a sight, one which is probably safest to watch from a distance, under a fire blanket.
You can watch it on YouTube, or visit their own site if interested.

Reads like hell on a Friday or Saturday night!!! Many thanks for the 'look at'!!
The Celts started off bonfires and the word bonfire comes from bone fire. In the time of the Celts, there were midsummer festivals where animal bones were burnt to ward off evil spirits. In modern times we use bonfires to burn garden debris and you have captured that so poetically within this well written poem, Emma. I love how the neighbours come to visit while the bonfire is glowing and bring crisps and cider, making it a lovely social get together. Leaving only when the last embers have turned to ashes. I like this poem very much and I, thank you for sharing it, Emma...

May I thank you more sincerely later, need rush. x
Emma,
I find it interesting that fires have always been used to gather people together and repel all other animals...
at some point the comfort and safety of red and yellow flames lighting an area always beckons us and seems to quell our spirits.

I am fine, even though I lost another two hundred words to the caprices of this website… SO FRUSTRATING!
My life here, truth be known, is BORING! Boring in slow motion! I have a hand full of things to deal with every day that are separate and disjointed… as though each was just a thing floating free in a weightless space station…
wake audio book get up exercise shave bathe dress
coffee breakfast more coffee computer news
Write writerscafe etc.
each floating around coliding with one another, drifting behind, reappearing,
the easy life is not for people used to being on fire, doing six things at once!
My anchors are out and keep me safe and hold me steady… Lisa, You, and a few others…
My biggest project hs to do with fixing a problem created by my disorganized brain. I’ve written a ton of new poems since I got here and saved them in alphabetical folders with my total oeuvre and when I get home I’ll want to put them in my real database over there. I have to go through the long list in every folder, checking dates, then copying and saving in a new file. Wooohoo!
I have counted myself a very blessed and fortunate man all my life, and then you come along and make it all even better… sigh, mmmmm.

Am more a short story writer than poet.
Inspiration welcome.
