gutter gutteral

A Poem by emmajoygreen
"

written in minutes.. probably shows..

"
05.20. UK.

Woken up by torrential rain hammering on my windows
crazy dancing howling a hooley through the well lagged loft..
Hardly the time for a party, so - am refusing the invitation!

Kitchen warmth: Peruvian socks snugging half asleep feet
Pan bubbling its own refrain, tinkling the stainless steel
chocolate powder awaiting the heat of semi-cream milk

Dawn's wondering whether tis time to peep across distance -
maybe wiser more to lie dreaming low in strata 's depth
along with the creepies and crawlies curled in dark dreams

Car groans murderous at the kerb, gutter gutteral awake
door slams closed, its mood infamously October well known
Monday's memorial is sadly damp, soaked as is - wind-blown!

Lady dog's eyes have that dark drooping dare.you.not.way
'We'll not woof-woof that wetness. but wait for nine when
Miss can don wellies and I will smugly soak in the rain!

Failing that, we could stay home, sit on the carpet next to
a gentle log fire, eat chocolates or nibbles (according to
our number of feet)  -  pause - and listen to music

EmmaJoy,
Of course, you know, these images are the stuff of dreams... not sleeping ones, but those on lonely days with no one else around... You are an image genius...
"rain hammering on my windows
crazy dancing howling a hooley through the well lagged loft."
"Peruvian socks snugging half asleep feet"
"with the creepies and crawlies curled in dark dreams"
"Miss can don wellies and I will smugly soak in the rain!"
And
"Failing that, we could stay home, sit on the carpet next to
a gentle log fire, eat chocolates or nibbles (according to
our number of feet) - pause - and listen to music."

I loved the style of this write, the three line stanzas related but disjointed set the mood and feel for this poem of awakening and the thoughts as they come in an atmosphere more conducive for laying under the covers than arrising. This semi broken thought presentation is perfect.

You wouldn't have gotten in anyway Em, without I.D.... I mean really....Hooley? Have heard you like an occasional dram too and also from your bench pic know you are acquainted with Ullapool, so the question really should be, on which body part is your "made in Scotland" tattoo? 😃
You paint quite a picture of the wee hours and stillness, before the intrusion that Dawn brings in her wake.
I'm telling you, she (dawn) has come close to being barred for life for all the chaos she brings, but she'll go on to do so, because she be so pretty! 😃

ahahaha .. so your Oct. is as fickle as those in the N. Central USA .. most always expect either freezing rain
or some variant of snow every Halloween. i am always enchanted by your regional dialect ... i also relate to the realism of the dark dreams ... we wake from those too, don't we? love on ya Em ... more great stuff from your unique style.

A day in the life in the UK. Rain, warm socks, and an elderly pup, who loves her mum and doesn't care for the rain. I enjoyed reading both versions, but at least for me the original was my favorite. Something about that style appeals to me. Thanks for sharing both version Emmajoy.

A UK rain, a pair of Peruvian socks, a warm beverage, a loving dog, car groaning, wellies, wind- blown in October.
A great snapshot into the poet's daily moments and routine, used to things and surprises of the weather.
I love it!
