dawn

dawn

A Poem by emmajoygreen

she lies
 curled, calm
an angelic ammonite on
a windswept beach
lost in history
 dawn smiles
hand searches
finds
palm holds
remembering
an unknown avian sentry
warm in a blush
of dreams
love calls
with tidings across
golden shores, green meadows
yesterdays touch
always

This poem is an edited one i wrote some time ago. It is based on a Dorset town called Lyme Regis where ammonites are a well known part of local geological history. Added to that the town was partially used for a book by John Fowles called 'The French Lieutenant's Woman.' - a wonderful book which was cleverly (if not perfectly) adapted for the movie.

I am in awe of this. French Lieutenants Woman in fact most of Fowles ouvre is manna for me. but this beyond beutiful poem is just stellar. And I am honestly not just saying that because you are kind to me in my writing.
This is so very visual, sculptural even and simply a superb metaphorical piece. So much so that I feel I could draw this.

This so has a feel of that dream moment before waking, where you are surprised, as you don't remember taking not only your duvet to the beach, but your bed, room and only when you hear the dog panting, you realise just how far your dream had let you escape from reality. To a time and place between the pages of a book you got to time travel to.
Well, it's either that or you nodded off in your deckchair! 😊
I like the "lost in history" line most, for the feel it gives the reader of what the writer felt. Does that make sense?
It leaves me wishing that dreams were a jukebox and you would know this dreams number off by heart if it were, as well as scrabbling around for a pound coin. 😊

Well, great story by Fowles...and great job by Meryl Streep in the flick.
this poem reminds me of Vermont...Tickle Naked Pond...and a picture I have of my mom and three other ladies sunbathing on the rocky beach there. And they were all smiling because it was a very happy time in all our lives and a very happy place to be in summer.

This is beautiful and I could clearly see the imagery of her. An angelic ammonite on a windswept beach. There is a sense of calm and peace. You gave me a memory of Seaton in Dorset. I went fossil hunting with my eldest grandson who was ten at the time. The night before there had been a storm, so we were very fortunate combing the beach for finds. I like where I went with this poem ‘Em

I loved the calm that embraces her. The dawn that is beginning to smile. Lost in history, perhaps she anticipates a dawn of change. Her dreams blush, perhaps bringing love with the dawn. A poem that was beautiful to read and ponder on.

A short and evocative poem. A well-crafted poem that uses sensory language to create a serene and timeless scene. The combination of natural imagery and personification gives the impression that nature is a peaceful and benevolent force, adding to the overall sense of calm. Very nice!
