A goodbye

A goodbye

A Poem by EJ Coleman

I do think it strange how fast time has passed

And am very aware that nothing ever will last

And every step of this road has been heavy and small

But oh I am happy I went through it all

So cheer, my friends, as you bid me goodbye

I will leave you now for that light in the sky

Please let a smile be the last thing I see

And promise you will not mourn me

For I am finished and I am done

I have nothing left, no more wars to be won

But not one more second will I feel sad

If you can belive it; I am actually glad

It is good and the time is right

When you look at the sky you do not see that light

But I do, oh I do

And one day you will too

This moment comes for everyone and now so for me

There is nothing wrong; this is just how it is supposed to be

From what I get from this is the person in the poem is mentally exhausted. Life gave him a run for his money so to speak. But in his death he realizes maybe he is victorious because now life can't beat him down anymore. He is ready to bid his life goodbye and start his new journey. I enjoyed this.

I see no sadness here. Just someone who has lived a grreat life and knows this is just part of it all. maybe a good way to start a self written obituary.
