The world to me

The world to me

A Poem by EJ Coleman

Do you remember when we first met?

And it was like after a long day at the sunset

Our hands trembled and we locked eyes

And fireworks lit up the skies

And do you remember that you said we couldn't be?

And I agreed but you could already see

That I wasn't fine and I had lied

And for many days I only cried

Then do you remember how we did our best?

But for some reason we never seemed to pass the test

And we both knew the reasons that we couldn't be

But I couldn't help that you already meant the world to me

Do you remember when we first caved in?

And you kissed my lips and held my chin

I was brave and kissed you back

And I thought I'd have a heart attack

And do you remember that we didn't even try?

Because we knew if we did we'd both die

And it was so good and the world was alright

There wasn't a problem left in sight

Then do you remember how we decided?

And you took my hand kept me guided

Together forever and always we'd be

Because you actually meant the world to me

Do you remember how happy we were?

And for me the world was just a blur

We didn't rush but did everything fast

And we didn't care because we knew it would last

And do you remember when I smiled at you?

Right at the moment when you said 'I do'

And I was the happiest I had ever been

That our life together would just begin

Then do you remember when the new lives came?

And I was so proud and you felt the same

I wasn't even scared of what we would be

Because you still meant the world to me

Will you remember everything I've said?

When I to rest have been laid

Because I will have said so many things

When it's all over and the fat lady sings

And will you remember the things I used to do?

When I have forever left you

Because I won't do them anymore

When I'm all finished and done for

Then will you remember how to go on?

When I am lost and long gone

Because I did always love you

It is true and I said it too

I hope you will remember that

When I have grabbed my things and taken my hat

I hope you will remember that it wasn't a lie

When I said that for you I would really die

I want you to remember this

But it's just the way it is

I want you to remember this time

And the mountain we would together climb

I wish you will remember what we used to be

Because you always meant the world to me

I am secretly very envious of the people who can actually write poetry, because I can't in the slightest.

I really like the timing, or rhythm of your writing. it's slightly fast but simultaneously you take everything in and it seems to echo the words "...did everything fast".

There's also some rhyming going on, and also some near rhymes.

Overall, this is very pleasant to read, and I hope you continue this standard of work because it's great to read.
