The Fool

The Fool

A Poem by emma

His body glistens

Slick beneath her weight

Sated, he whispers

“Our love could grow from this”

She smiles, though her eyes ask,

What do we know of love?

We won’t always be fulfilled

You may ache for me,

I’ll be too distracted to notice

Or even care.

We’ll break each other’s hearts

Without even knowing why.

I’ll want what you can’t provide,

Fantasies that don’t include you.

Monotony will become oppressing

And you will start to wonder why.

Consumed with resentment

For the dreams of the other

Grieving for what we never had.

All you know is this body

That won’t always be pliant

To your touch.

So enjoy what we are

Don’t ask for more

For what do we know of love?

This gave me such an aching sadness... the longing for only the moment and nothing more... Your words fill this relationship with a story that goes so much further than the poem...
