The journey

The journey

A Poem by emma

I have danced

To the music of love

And felt its beat

In every fibre of my being.

I have known the enchantment

Of a lovers touch

And lost myself

To follow their path.

I have forsaken

My dreams

And despaired

In the choices I have made.

I have allowed myself

To be blinded

When it felt easier

Than being true to myself.

I have longed for release

And have been

Numbed by fear,

Grounded by the chains of another.

I have been touched

By sorrow

And felt it in

The very depths of my soul.

I have been opened

By life’s betrayals

And no longer

Fear to dream.

I have learnt

To embrace my emotions

For only then can I

Truly understand them, and myself.

I have faced my fears

And am stronger.

Now I am free

To dance in the light of the moon.

in a nutshell - you have experienced all the facets of LOVE ! truly after being neck deep in sorrow one starts to relentlessly deny fear ... amazingly poignant yet retaining a hint of the mystery i.e. this life ..

wonderful write, the last stanza was good... When we face problems and come across them solving it brilliantly, it gives us courage and confidence to tackle anything...

Such a work of love and beauty that reaches us all. If we can understand our emotions and ourselves we can be free! I often think of the Moon and those who dance in its light.

I especially liked the last stanza of this poem. Knowledge is indeed liberating and the light of the moon is indeed a wonderful place too dance. Pererably a full moon.

The line ...

"I have learnt
To embrace my emotions
For only then can I
Truly understand them, and myself."

... brings to mind an image of someone hugging a disconsolate friend. While you are embracing them tightly, you have control of them that they might not injure themselves. Emotions are much the same. When you embrace them you keep them from injuring themselves, or in reality ... you.
