Goodbye!

You stand so close beside me
You want to stay I know
I can feel your anticipation
That I might tell you not to go.

I know your eyes search for mine
But I'm afraid of what I'll see
All your hopes and plans for us
The future that can never be.

Your hand on my arm, your breath on my neck
Suddenly it's so hard to breathe
I can't stand to watch your heart break
When I tell you, you have to leave.

You kiss me softly before you go
And I wonder if I'm wrong
I remember every moment
But forever's just too long.

It's truly terrible when it's not love and you know that the person you're with is not the right one.. you try to imagine forever but feel like you're drowning or suffercating at the hands of the person.. who you don't love in the sense of forever.. I believe loving and caring is on many different levels and the right one will be found in their own time.. sometimes we are not ready to embrace it! You could have the right person wrong time scenario too.. goals sometimes don't mesh.. so much to consider... Love this writing for it's honesty and great flow ... great job on this one! =)

Love knows no compromise it is either right or wrong i have known similar scenarios where i have been besotted with someone yet i haven't loved them it is just an impulse or passing fantasy.
To really love someone you need to know them deep down inside and what makes them tick.
I love this poem because i have felt the awful pain of rejection as i have myself dished out the rejection ticket and one feels like a traffic warden giving one for parking in a space for just a few seconds longer than one might accept.
Your poem is honest and full of integrity a masterpiece of writing which is both thought provoking and emotional i cannot help feel sorry for those who are both left in the predicament of choosing and the poor victim but better to have lost in love than to have never loved at all.

my husband had to go back to US coz he had a job there.....
it was so difficult to let him go....:(
There's a song and a saying in hindi.....

I love it!
Ordinarily, I think that rhyming poems carry a certain amount of, let's say, kiddishness, no matter their topic. But this one still has the air of seriousness without sacrificing feeling.
I love the originality, people don't usually write about being on the other end of heartbreak.
