Christmas Blues

Christmas Blues

A Poem by emipoemi
"

A collaboration/parody I wrote with a friend of mine last Christmas.

"

Dashing through the aisles,
My mind quite gone astray.
Through the many stores,
Crying all the way!

(Ay Ay Ay!)
Lights on buildings gleam,
But I don’t shine so bright.
The season scarce has started
And my money’s super tight!

(Ho!)

Christmas blues! Christmas blues!

Woes and throes abound!
And though I’ve looked so high, so low,
My spirit can’t be found!

(Ho!)

Christmas blues! Christmas blues!

Woes and throes abound!
And though I’ve looked so high, so low,
My spirit can’t be found!

So many sales and deals
No matter where I look,
Promising the moon
In casting out their hook!

(Oh Oh Oh!)
Festive music blares,
But I don’t wish to sing.
I’m so convinced that Santa Claus
Won’t bring me anything!

(Ho!)

Christmas blues! Christmas blues!

Woes and throes abound!
And though I’ve looked so high, so low,
My spirit can’t be found!

(Ho!)

Christmas blues! Christmas blues!

Woes and throes abound!
And though I’ve looked so high, so low,
My spirit can’t be found!

That spirit becomes more elusive with every passing year. It's probably now consigned to the back of a shelf in the 'buy one, get one free,' section, alongside that other rapidly disappearing commodity, community spirit. :))

Beccy.

It's like it's no longer about family anymore, eh?

Thanks for reading. Glad you enjoy.. read more
"sales and deals" absolutely what Christmas has become...the spirit is lost...

Used to like to drive around looking at decorations....but even those now have become a competition to outdo each other...and it is way too much.
what about a "silent night" and Peace...
this is such good satire...and sounds like one voice.
well done,
j.

sure! I'm going to read more! )))
This is great fun based on reality. I don't do the holiday scramble anymore, but you've got it pegged here with perfect adherence to the melody of the Jingle Bells! This must've been fun to work on in a collab, becuz I can feel the fun flowing from your well-crafted lines! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It definitely was. Thanks for reading!
I love the contrast between the joyful melody and the sad tone.

The S sounds at the end of the first stanza are fantastic and the metaphor of “casting out their hook” in the second stanza is my favorite part of that stanza.

The chorus is genius! “woes and throes” and “so high, so low” are my favorite parts!

This is a lot of fun to read!
