Friendships

Friendships

A Poem by emipoemi

So many suns have shimmered
Across the sweeping sky;
So many moons have glimmered
With many stars nearby;
So many happy moments
Have dissolved into the past.
And I’m sorry - sorry - sorry!
I blind was to the story
Of friendships that don’t last.

By the lustre of the sunrise
They come, frisky as a faun,
Yet against the gloomy sunset
They in a blink are gone.
And I’m hurled into the doldrums
With my fervour fading fast.
And I’m sorry - sorry - sorry!
My days are dark and hoary
From friendships that don’t last.

My dreams were high and mighty!
My eyes were on the prize!
I sided with my demon
Despite my angel’s cries.
Now I wade into the future,
Much afflicted, much aghast.
And I’m sorry - sorry - sorry!
I wallow in false glory
From friendships that don’t last.

I can still perceive your features,
Still can call you all by name.
I but lacked the understanding
Of how to play the game.
O I pray my plea be heeded;
That a lifeline soon be cast.
For I’m sorry - sorry - sorry!
Purge me from purgatory
With friendships that would last.
