Valentine

My heart is a torch of affection in the moments I look in your eyes;
My soul is a beacon of ardour in the instants of hearing your sighs;
My arms encompass the heavens, my feet hover over the ground-
I fleetly flit as a feather
About the burgeoning heather
Without a care for the weather
Whenever you’re around.

 

Ev’ry day is a summery solstice, ev’ry night a serene equinox,
Life ever dynamic with splendour, time ever defying the clocks;
’Twixt shimmers we play to a purpose, ’twixt shadows on purpose we play,
While sharing a smile in the moonlight,
A sleepless smile in the moonlight,
’Til sunshine seeps through the moonlight
To start another day.
 
Whatever the future may harbour, and whether our fortune may be
United by way of an alley or divided by means of a sea­-
By the glow of the tawny sunset and the gleam of the azure morn,
Come what idle isolation
Or trying tribulation,
As each other’s consolation,
We’ll never be forlorn.
 
By the shadow of the groundhog and the heavenly wings of the dove,
The world is charmed with charisma on the day of the saint of love;
As Eros releases his arrows and the stars of lovers align-
The thrills disperse on a whisper,
A will-o-the-wisp of a whisper,
As into your window I whisper:
Will you be my valentine?

Lovely poem for Valentine’s Day! I especially like the imagery in the second stanza. The repeating of the “s” sound, for me, gave off a sleepy vibe to go along with the “moonlight” theme.

I also really like the last stanza. It’s a splendid way to talk about Valentine’s Day specifically. “A will-o-the-wisp of a whisper” was one of my favorite lines.

I spent the day working in a coffee shop, and this poem reminds me of the smiles and loving nature all the people had who came in with their Valentine’s. You’ve definitely encompassed the feelings of the holiday!
