Part 1A Chapter by emipoemiA time in June at half-past noon We sat without a sound. While scents of fir and sweet liqueur Perfumed the air around. With purple punch we sat for lunch- My closest friend and I- To simply slake our thirsts, and make Our throats no longer dry. The place was grim and rather dim, So we could barely see Around the gloom that filled the room Of dreadful misery. Just being here it soon was clear The walls breathed fear and sin, Which echoed through the grit and dew That was the Ballad Inn. But there were few with mugs of brew Who slightly moved at times. They looked distraught and deep in thought, As though regretting crimes. They blankly stared, and never dared Produce the slightest sound, As though it all- from wall to wall- Would fall should sound abound. The first, not far, was at the bar, His coat a captain’s blue. The charms he’d check adorned his neck, A sword lay by his brew. Our left hand side bore lesser pride, As there a man looked pale. His fearful stare was more a scare Than any horror tale. Upon the sill a cat lay still, And slept beneath the rays. His orange coat had stripes to note As white as wintry days. Across the room, engulfed in gloom, A man leered into space. At times he drew some sips of brew, But held his glance in place. Not far from him was far more grim, In fact the corner there Was dark as night, obscuring sight, But someone didn’t care. His legs we saw in utter awe, As that was simply all The light could see of whom could be Against the darkened wall. -EDP © 2019 emipoemiReviews
