A Pessimistic View On What The World Will Be Like In The Future.

A Story by emilythestrange

The roads are covered in dust, the skies grey, the seas similarly coloured. Of course the richest had been transported to The Other Side, where the world is still lush and green, and there is technology that they can live off of. But here myself and my family shall stay, for we are not the richest , or the most beautiful, or the smartest. My Grandmother Emily says that there was a time when our world was not like this, and people read things called Books, and listened to something called A Piano. These words, they are amusing to me, but to her they are sacred. She tells me that The Books were her favourite thing, until they were taken. She tells me that there was a time when people were not treated in such a way, when The Abominables were not locked away in a prison, and when people were allowed to believe what they wanted to believe, and the sky wasnt so grey.

She says that women were treated in the same way, almost, but not quite so terribly. My mother says that she remembers this time, but it wasn't long after she was born that They came.

They are not from another planet.
They are not from another universe.
They are us. They are our own.
